Description

Up for sale are two little items from The American Stationery Co., located in Peru, Indiana. One of them, a yellow, black, and white three-fold flyer, is dated 1935, and the other, a Christmas-themed flyer, also with three folds, has "Christmas 1935" printed on it.

The two items I'm selling both measure the same when fully opened: 6-1/2 inches by 13 inches.
The yellow, black, and white flyer, which opens horizontally, has a woman writing a note on the cover, with the words " BRINGS YOU THE / WORLD'S BIGGEST BARGAIN IN FINE STATIONERY" printed around her. In a bubble n the lower left are the words "THE AMERICAN / STATIONERY CO. / PERU, IND.," and in small print at the bottom right are these words: "
© 1935, A. S. Co. / Printed in U. S. A."
Inside, there's information on the "450" Package -- 150 printed enveloped and 300 single sheets -- for or .25, with this interesting note included: "West of Denver, Colorado, and outside of United States, add 10% to list price." The four-panel reverse side offers the "Double Sheet Package," "Correspondence Cards," "De Luxe Package," "Classic Stationery," and "Social Stationery" for various prices, depending on the printing and ink desired. A note at the bottom left reads: "At least .00 worth of stationery must be ordered for each printed address. Orders less than .00 not accepted.
Orders must be given in quantities as stated in price list.
West of Denver, Colorado, and outside of United States, add 10% to list price. / READ INSTRUCTIONS ON BACK PAGE BEFORE ORDERING."
The Christmas flyer, which reads vertically, has a blank panel at the back with "PRINTED IN U. S. A." in small letters at the bottom right and on the front panel an Art Deco / Moderne-style leaping reindeer with two red poinsettias and a setting sun behind, in shades of gray, black, white, and the red of the flowers. There's a message printed in letter form on two adjacent panels, in a three-poinsettia surround, and it reads:

The overall condition of the two 1935 advertising items is very good. There's some minor spotting, soiling, chipping, smudging, etc., here and there but no annotations, marginalia, underlining, scribbles, etc., can be seen anywhere on the paper. Nor do the items have any damage or flaws in the way of missing bits of paper, large tears, tape repairs, water or other liquid damage, etc. The paper has possibly a bit age-toned / darkened / yellowed a bit over the years. Neither of the items has either a musty or smoky odor.
These two well-preserved advertising / promotional flyers from The American Stationery Co. are being sold AS IS, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND PICTURED WITHIN. I am setting what I feel is a reasonable starting price for the auction, and there is NO RESERVE. I am also including a Buy It Now price.
Shipping and handling for the paper items, which will be sent in a rigid mailer:  to U.S. addresses (via Media Mail) and to Canada and to Europe, Japan, Australia, South America, and elsewhere in the world (the latter two via First Class International Mail, aka Air Mail, which is now the CHEAPEST method possible abroad).
I recently discovered that some
countries, like Australia and South Korea, are actually a bit more expensive to post packages to than Europe, but at this point in time I'll keep all the non-domestic and non-Canadian prices the same and swallow the difference myself (unless we're talking or so more), since so few outside the States buy my items -- though I'm always so pleased when they do!
If you want the items sent more quickly to you (e.g., via Priority or Express Mail), you must request this asap after winning or purchasing them (or beforehand, if possible), and I will adjust the amount accordingly.
