    was born Dec. 24, 1882 in Germany; he died Oct. 01, 1945.  His wife was Agathe (Steib) Schmid.  Gebhard Schmid's children included
    Josef "Beppo" Schmid
    (born 1901, died 1956), a prominent figure in WWII.
    DESCRIPTION:
    Measures 9 1/2" from base to tip of prism, top diameter is 3", base diameter is 4 1/2", the bottom of the stein is recessed about 1 1/8" up from the base.
    Maker's mark J. Schindele at top.
    The black smudge on the bottom has since been removed. The inside of the stein has a
    raised symbol/flower
    that spans the bottom but can't determine what it is.  Colors in the
    lithopane scene
    are vivid and surrounded by German writing.
    Prism
    is
    perfect
    with sharp edges and no chips or cracks.  The interior of the metal lid is lighter than the exterior.  The stein is in
    EXCELLENT+ CONDITION.
